Haskovo, I would say a beautiful location for a city but unfortunately in the wrong hands, those of local managing authorities.
The most precious in that city, are my family and friends. There is hiding the concept of the house. One open home for my mom Athina Katsaru, brother Giannis and friends, all of them surrounded by the green. The whole group to be involved in the communal every day routine. Be inside, see the sky and feel protected. The air into the air.
When you are resting in the garden surrounded by fruit trees, seating there you can observe things happening inside the house but at the same time to be alone in the shadow of trees. We wanted the house to be poetic, have the smell of delicious food everywhere, hear everywhere the music, laugh and cry. To be alive. To support the emotional and sensitive people who will leave in it .
My family was always together and we used to spend time in one space doing different things. I wanted to keep that beautiful feeling in this new for us home.
There was so many challenges in front of us during the design process. Questions like "How do you design for people who you know and love more than everything?", "How do you involve yourself as an Architect into the emotional surrounding of opinions?", "How many ways can I find to connect psychical needs and mental needs in one only space?", some more "simple" questions like "How are you building in Bulgaria?", "Which are the most economic ways to make an idea to happen?", "Why economic doesn't mean something good?", "How is it possible building materials to cost as much as european do in a country with non european salaries?" and last one
The project is much more precious for my family than we could expect, because it is build BY us and our friends and is FOR us and our friends.
The place is out of the city in the suburbs, a paradise of silence and nature.
Place having the potential to be completely independent from the city. Its own water wells, rich land for cultivation and great orientation for the exploitation of solar energy
